6 APIs to Keep Your 2022 New Year’s Resolutions
Can you believe it? 2021 has come and gone. And with the sun setting on another year, it’s time to look forward to what the next one holds. For some folks, the calendar turning to 2022 means an opportunity to set new personal goals—whether it’s establishing healthier physical, mental, or financial routines. Whatever changes you’re looking to implement with personal New Year’s resolutions, here’s a Postman public workspace featuring six APIs that just might help you meet your goals.
1. Let’s get physical
We all know that the number one New Year’s resolution folks make is related to exercising more or getting in better shape. The Strava API allows you to access all of your tracked fitness data. Explore the List Athlete Activities
endpoint and use the Postman Visualizer to create a graph that tracks your most active day of the week or just look at all your data and find the top max_speed
you’ve hit so far in 2022.
2. Map your nap for better rest
After all that running and biking, getting a good night of sleep is paramount. The Oura Ring is quite literally a ring that you wear on your finger that monitors your heart rate and analyzes your sleep. The Oura Ring API provides heaps of helpful information about your sleep habits and gives you a daily readiness score. Set a daily monitor to ping you with your ideal bedtime and make sure you get to bed at a reasonable hour.
3. Eat healthy snacks
If you’re like me, you ate your way through the holidays. After all, you can’t have awkward conversations with distant relatives if your mouth is full of cookies! But if you’re looking to avoid takeout in the new year while revamping your cooking game, the spoonacular API is perfect. Have specific dietary restrictions like being gluten-free or trying paleo? No problem. Get started easily and search for “gluten-free brownies without sugar” to get recipes for the same holiday sweets without the guilt of all the sugar.
4. Read books by your favorite authors
“I want to read more books this year” is a common goal for the new year. Fortunately, with the Penguin Random House API, you can easily explore all the works by your favorite authors. Try writing a test script to pick a random new Grisham novel to snuggle up with. While new books are always cool, take this API even further and see if your favorite author is going to be at an event near you with the authorevents
endpoint.
5. Set up your own personal DJ
Every December, Spotify’s viral marketing campaign called “Spotify Wrapped” takes over social media feeds everywhere. Come January, people fall back into their old listening habits. If you’re like me and can’t get enough of personally curated playlists with new artists and new tunes, this Spotify Playlist Generator collection lets you keep the good times rolling in 2022 with a daily or weekly dose of fresh music.
6. Save more money
Let’s face it, we probably all splurged this year during the holiday season. We deserved it after the year that 2021 was. But if you feel like getting your money-spending habits back in order, the You Need A Budget (YNAB) API has you covered. Programmatically list your budgets, create new transactions, or see which spending category you spent the most money on.
