Announcing the Postman Enterprise Beta, with Single Sign-On (SSO)

Today we are excited to announce the opening of the Postman Enterprise beta, with the much requested feature of SSO.

Postman Pro is being adopted across thousands of organizations, bringing better and faster API development to companies. As our product has scaled up with features like monitoring, customized API docs and mock servers, so has the average number of users who are part of a team. While the majority of customers have appreciated the simplicity of Pro, many customers have asked for additional tools to help them manage and scale their team.

SSO was the most requested feature by these enterprise customers, and we are happy to announce it is shipping out today in beta.

What is SSO?

Single Sign-On (SSO) services make it easy to manage your team’s identity across all the SaaS products that you use.

SSO is a user authentication service that permits a user to use one set of login credentials (e.g., name/email and password) to access multiple applications. The service authenticates the end user only once for all the applications the user has been given rights to and eliminates further prompts when the user switches applications during the same session.

An example of SSO is Google’s implementation of login for their products, such as Gmail, YouTube, etc. Any user that is logged in to one of Google’s products are automatically logged in to their other products as well.

What are the major protocols?
  • OpenID Connect
  • Facebook Connect
  • SAML
  • Microsoft Account (formerly known as Passport)
  • LDAP
  • Kerberos
What are the advantages of SSO?
  • Removes the need for users to remember and manage multiple passwords.
  • Simplifies users’ experience by allowing them to log in at one single access point and enjoy a seamless experience across multiple applications.
  • Increases productivity by significantly reducing the password-related support emails.
  • Reduces phishing and thereby making sure users aren’t tricked into giving away sensitive information.
Which identity providers are supported?

Like many other cloud service providers, Postman supports SSO for Enterprise teams using the SAML 2.0 standard. We currently support Okta, OneLogin, and G Suite.

As always, continue letting me know how Postman can bring better and faster API development to your team. If you want to try out Postman Enterprise, contact us with any questions.
